Learning About Food

Food connects us and has the power to teach many important lessons.

We feel strongly that connecting directly to food, by tasting it and enjoying it with others, is essential to fostering matter-of-fact positive relationships. Eating with peers and different caring adults is crucial to supporting children and youth in developing these positive, matter-of-fact relationships with food.

To learn more about our approach to sharing food with youth, check out our "Eating in the Classroom" resource for educators. This short resource shares good practices for sharing and talking about food with children and youth.

Classroom Kits

We are piloting a series of classroom kits. These kits provide everything a teacher needs to do a hands-on-food lesson with their class. Kits will be more widely available in the Sooke School District in the 2026/27 school year.

Garden Support

We provide a variety of supports to help gardens thrive. Check out our garden support page for more information.
